RULES & REGULATION

Everything you need to know for your race.

Participants will be classified according to their age group, ensuring fair competition within each category. See below the official L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 age categories.

General

Only human-powered, two-wheeled bikes with a freewheel assembly and at least 2 brakes that function independently are allowed. (no electro-bikes, no motor bikes)
Every participant is responsible for the safety of his/her own bicycle. Particular attention must be paid to the brakes and other safety-related components.
If the use of bikes that are not in compliance with the regulations are discovered, the participant will be eliminated from the race and disqualified.
Bottle holders may only be attached within the framing geometry of the bike.

Racing Bikes
The use of a road/racing bike is not mandatory, but is recommended due to the speed and conditions of the race.

Mountain Bikes, Trekking and City Bikes
Mountain bikes, trekking and city bikes may be used. If you prefer to use these types of bikes you should consider your safety, average speed and time limits.

Special Regulations

The bikes and components listed below are prohibited in the race:
- Triathlon, horn-type, aero bars and delta handlebars resp.
- Handlebar attachments of any kind
- Single speeds of any kind
- Fixie bikes of any kind
- Hand bikes of any kind
- Panniers and other loads
- Any kind of audio device or headphone that may reduce hearing ability, and consequently reduces the ability to respond. (i.e. no MP3 players, no earphones, no earplugs).

-Helmet

Wearing a helmet is mandatory.

-Race Number

The race number is used for identification of a participant. It must be affixed securely and it must be clearly visible. It must be in full size, on both sides of the rider's back near the jersey pockets and under the saddle.

Individual Classification

The L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 National Ranking will be in effect from January 1 through December 31, 2026, and will take into account the results obtained across the 7 events that make up the L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 Series.

At each event, points will be awarded to the top 30 finishers in each age category and distance, according to the official points table.

The participant who accumulates the highest number of points by the end of the Series will be recognized as the L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 Series Champion in their respective category and distance.

Points System

The points earned by each participant will accumulate throughout the Series.

Example: If you finish 2nd in your category at L’Étape La Paz and earn 200 points, and later finish 5th in your category at L’Étape Cancún and earn 90 points, you will have accumulated a total of 290 points.

Your total score will be compared with those of all other participants in the same category and distance to determine your position in the National Ranking.

After each event, only the top 20 participants in each category will be published.

Distance Requirements

For points to count toward the National Ranking, participants must compete in the same distance throughout the entire Series.

Exception: If a cyclist competing in the Short Distance finishes 1st in 4 consecutive events, they will automatically move up to the Long Distance. Once promoted, the cyclist will not be allowed to return to the Short Distance for the following 3 years.

Points earned in different distances cannot be combined.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more participants finish with the same number of points, the following tie-breaking criteria will apply, in this order:

1. Highest number of participations in the L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 Series.
2. Highest number of first-place finishes during the Series.
3. Highest number of second-place finishes during the Series.
4. Best finishing position in the most recent event of the Series.

The Organizing Committee may award additional prizes to participants based on their ranking and according to the criteria it establishes.

Double Points at the Final Event

At the final event of the Series, L’Étape Ciudad de México by Tour de France 2026, all points earned will be doubled across all categories and distances.

Ranking Results

Updated National Ranking results will be published on www.asdeporte.com within a maximum of 8 days after each event.

From the date of publication, participants will have 15 calendar days to request any clarification regarding their results. Once this period has expired, no claims or modifications related to the ranking for that event will be accepted.

Important Rules

• Points earned in different distances cannot be combined. If a participant changes distances from one event to another, their results will be calculated separately.
• A participant who finishes 1st in 4 consecutive events in the Short Distance will automatically move up to the Long Distance and will not be allowed to return to the Short Distance for the following 3 years.
• High-performance athletes or athletes who have previously been affiliated with a sports federation are not eligible to compete in the Short Distance.
• Any cyclist who earns a podium position must remain present throughout the official awards ceremony. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the right to receive the corresponding prizes.
• During the awards ceremony, participants are strictly prohibited from stepping onto the podium wearing caps, vests, windbreakers, or any other apparel that is not official L’Étape México by Tour de France merchandise. Participants must wear the official jersey of the current event.
• National Ranking Champions (1st place) may compete wearing the jersey that identifies them as Champions of their respective category and will be entitled to the benefits established by the National Ranking.

Series Awards

At the end of the L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 Series, the top 3 finishers in each category and distance will receive awards.

1st Place — Series Champion

• Commemorative Champion Jersey.
• Gold medal.
• The right to start in the first starting corral at the following event when wearing the commemorative Champion Jersey.

2nd Place

• Silver medal.

3rd Place

• Bronze medal.

Qualification for L’Étape du Tour de France 2027

The L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 National Ranking will also be used to determine the cyclists eligible to receive an entry to L’Étape du Tour de France 2027, with the host location to be confirmed.

To be eligible, participants must meet the following requirements:

• Have competed exclusively in the Long Distance events throughout the 2026 Series.
• Finish among the top 3 in their category at the end of the L’Étape México by Tour de France 2026 Series.
• Participants in the 60+ age categories must have competed in at least 4 events during the 2026 Series.

Important

L’Étape México by Tour de France will provide only the entry to L’Étape du Tour de France 2027.

All additional expenses related to participation—including transportation, flights, accommodation, meals, local transfers, equipment, and any other personal expenses—will be the sole responsibility of each cyclist.

The entry provided by L’Étape México by Tour de France will be the only benefit associated with this qualification and will be subject to the official participation terms and conditions of L’Étape du Tour de France 2027.
